For my first superfood of the week post, I want to rave about how awesome hemp seeds are! They are considered a complete protein and are 100% plant-based, so vegan and vegetarian-friendly!
These little bad boys are packed to the brim with vitamins and minerals like calcium, folate, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, iron, riboflavin, zinc, thiamin, vitamins A, D & E, and B1, 2, 3, & 6!
phew, that was a mouthful!
like I said they are loaded with protein and also a ton of powerhouse fats, I sprinkle them on literally just about anything (and hide them in my boyfriend’s food all the time! shhh!)
Just in case you weren’t convinced yet, this tiny superfood is great at increasing your digestive health, will do wonders for your skin and nails, improve your heart health, balance those hormones, and help speed up your metabolism.
For post work out I chopped up some fruit I had around and added lots of hemp seeds for a yummy protein-packed fruit salad! (on the side is some peanut butter cinnamon coconut sugar toast that I was craving!)
while this may seem kind of light as a post work out meal, keep in mind that we really do not need near as much protein as most of us consume every day. Today’s society seems to be in a sort of protein craze. In reality, the AMDR (or acceptable macronutrient distribution range) for protein is only 10%-35% of your daily caloric intake. This is a good thing to keep in mind at the grocery store and throughout your day as you’re tempted with bright labels that boast about the great amounts of protein that their products contain.
